Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, Congratulations to BGMS students for a job well done on their Star Willits Science Fair Entries. We had 7 Mendocino County Fair qualifiers, and 6 special award winners. I want to commend all of our students who entered the virtual Willits Science Fair. It was something new, you had to learn how to participate, and you did it! All primary contacts for BGMS 6th grade students will receive, in their email, information about our program for students returning to school for in-person instruction, tomorrow. Information for 7th and 8th grade students will be posted on the BGMS website. The date has not been set, but we need to hear from parents, guardians, and caregivers about how your child will complete the school year; return to in person learning, or remain in distance learning. Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, The Willits Science Fair is virtual this year and projects will be available for viewing this week on Wednesday and Thursday. The link is on the Willits Science Fair website. The WUSD School Board will have a special meeting this week to discuss bringing back students to in person instruction from TK to 6th grade. BGMS is asking every parent to save March 3rd at 5:30 pm for a virtual parent meeting to get information about students returning to in person school at BGMS. We are in the last two weeks of trimester 2. Parents should make sure that students know what work can be completed, made up, or redone for credit toward their grade for the trimester. Just a reminder that all of our students are eligible for the free lunch program and as such the California Department of Social Services will be issuing Pandemic EBT cards for all of our students, to all of our families. All students should be checking their assignments to make sure everything is turned in, and completed. Next week is the Willits Virtual Science Fair, your student should have completed their project and turned it in to their Science teacher. Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians and Caregivers, We are excited to announce that all of our students are eligible for the free lunch program and as such the California Department of Social Services will be issuing Pandemic EBT cards for all of our students, to all of our families. It is exciting to know that 90 people befitted from acts of kindness in one week from students. Student Council members wanted to go into Social Studies classes and present noteworthy historical figures for Black History Month. They will be doing this throughout this week. There are four weeks left to Trimester 2. This week and next week are four day weeks, with Friday of this week and Monday of next week off for the Presidents Day Holiday. Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Care Givers, Academic Talent Search a program out of Sonoma State University is recruiting students to participate. This is a college information and support program that offers students workshops, summer camps, and college visitations. ATS will be recruiting in AVID classes this week. If you are interested in an application for your student, or need more information, call the BGMS office. As an update to returning whole school in-person instruction, Mendocino County Health Department is giving schools the go ahead to begin the reopening process. WUSD has been inoculating staff, for every staff member that wanted to take the opportunity. Our district office is now working on bringing rapid testing to our schools. As you know the reopening process will take time, but we are working to develop and send our plans to the different county and state agencies for approval. Wednesday the Baechtel Grove Middle School Site Council will meet beginning at 3:30 pm on Zoom. Any parent interested in joining us can call the office for the Zoom link. All of our students that have been without power this past week have until the end of the trimester to complete their work missed during this time. Hopefully everyone will have their power restored soon. Teachers are willing to help with that work by staying on Zoom right after the class meeting. They have not been introducing a lot a new concepts, either. Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, This week is the middle of our Trimester 2, and the end of an AR cycle. Every student should have reached their reading goal for this three week period. Every teacher will send an email with the progress sheet for each student. These will be sent to the adults’ email, and it will show missing assignments, completed assignments, and grades to date. Please talk about these with your child. If they are completing most of the work, celebrate with them. If they are missing many assignments, encourage them to complete them. If they need help have them go to after school assistance on Mondays and Wednesdays. If they are discouraged, call us and together we can come up for a plan for their success. Remember that it is about their learning. If they fail two Trimesters of a core class, not only will they have to attend an eight- week summer school, in the summer, in-person, but they will struggle more in school next year. Enrolling in Kids Club is essential and mandatory for our BGMS after school intervention classes. The online application is on their Google Classroom page, please enroll. There are 4 Willits High School students who are ready Monday through Friday from 3:00-6:00 pm to schedule tutoring, and homework help. Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, We have an attendance challenge starting tomorrow, Monday! Students with 100% attendance in PE, Art, Music, ELD, AVID, and Math Support for 10 days, January 11th through January 22nd, will be entered into a drawing by grade level. One boy and one girl from each grade level have the chance to win $10 gift cards to Safeway. Attendance to all classes was low this past week. When students attend class meetings and do the work for each class, they gain the learning that they will need to pass classes at the high school and not struggle in high school, and earn the necessary credit in classes to gain a high school diploma. There is help! From 3:00 to 4:00 on Mondays and Wednesdays Ms. Wall and Ms. Golding are ready to help in Language Arts, Math, and Science. Remember that this is the fifth week of trimester 2, and on the sixth week we will send out progress checks for all classes. Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, We hope that everyone had an enjoyable winter break from school. I want to thank all the parents who joined us for the Honors Assemblies. Something beneficial about the virtual gatherings was that they gave us a chance to have you participate as families. As we begin 2021 we want everyone to know that students returning to in person instruction is a goal we want to accomplish as soon as possible. We are in the fourth week of trimester 2. By Monday of next week all of the teachers’ gradebooks should be updated and the parent portal should show all student work that was completed, and has been graded. If you have questions, please email the teacher of that class. The thing to remember this trimester is that students have work that they must complete asynchronously, or by themselves, right after the classroom Zoom meeting with their teacher. It is not an option to do this work later, it must be done right after the class meeting, because teachers remain available so that they can answer questions, or help students to complete this work. Parents and Students: We are still operating under our Seemless Summer program. Anyone who is 18 years old or younger, enrolled or not, can receive at no cost a breakfast and/or lunch. Households can pick up to five days at a time including weekends. Meals can be picked up at the Willits High School cafeteria Monday through Friday from 8am to 2 PM. Deliveries are available upon request on a daily or weekly basis. During winter break, meals can be picked up Monday and Tuesday, December 21st and 22nd and Monday and Tuesday the 28th and 29th from 8 to 2 PM.
