Educational Options at Willits Unified
At Willits Unified School District, we recognize that every student’s journey is unique. Whether your child is facing a temporary health challenge or seeking a more flexible learning environment, our Educational Options provide the support needed to maintain academic progress outside the traditional classroom. We are committed to ensuring that every student in our community has a path to success, regardless of their circumstances.
To meet these diverse needs, WUSD offers three primary specialized pathways:
-
Providing critical instructional continuity for students who cannot attend school due to a temporary physical or mental health condition. This program allows students to keep up with their coursework through 1-on-1 instruction while they focus on recovery.
-
Designed for families needing brief academic flexibility due to unavoidable absences, such as family emergencies or travel. This ensures students stay connected to their classroom curriculum and return to school without falling behind.
-
For students who thrive in a more autonomous, self-paced environment, our long-term program at Sherwood School (K-8) and New Horizons (9-12) offers a voluntary alternative to the traditional classroom. This pathway emphasizes personalized learning and regular teacher check-ins to meet long-term educational goals. Classes fill up fast, so you may need to be placed on a waiting list.
