Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, This is our last week of this school year. Teachers have many fun and exciting activities planned for students for this week. We hope that everyone will stay with us until the end, on Friday. Monday and Tuesday we will be doing a Chromebook check for all of our students, including the distance learners. Everyone should have picked up a new Chromebook in March. Students will keep this Chromebook until they graduate from Willits High School. All students will bring their Chromebooks to school and their block 1 teacher will note the condition and the Chromebook number. Our distance learners will give their teacher their number, and tell them what the condition is. If any student did not receive a new Chromebook in March, they should call the office and make arrangements to bring in their old Chromebook and receive a new one. The Eighth Grade Promotion Procession will begin at 6:00 pm on Thursday. Parents of eighth graders involved in this procession were sent information last week. I want to thank you for your extraordinary support of the learning of your children in this unusual year. Everyone must remain in the vehicle (except for the student and one adult for a photo) Line up cars beginning on Hazel Street going west towards Locust Cars will proceed one at a time to the BGMS Bus Circle Student will be allowed to exit the vehicle Students will walk to the table and pick up their “Promotion Package” which includes: any medals students have earned and their Promotion Completion Certificate. Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, Your response after my call last Monday asking for your help was immediate and supportive. The rest of the week almost every student arrived after 7:45 am. We appreciate your response. In these last two weeks of the school year it is important that students continue to attend classes. There are still end of the trimester assignments, and assessments, and end of the year activities to complete. We are almost there. Please be prepared for next week. We will be checking student Chromebooks for damage on Monday and Tuesday. When Chromebooks are issued to students in sixth grade, they will be able to keep them until they graduate from Willits High School, but we will check them for damage twice a year. Every student must bring in their school issued Chromebook for the Chromebook Check next week. The eighth grade Promotion Procession will take place at 6:00 next Thursday, June 10th. If you have not received a phone call about your student’s promotion status, please call the school. Our last day of school is June 11th. Summer School begins on June 15th. Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, We need your help with a safety situation at BGMS. Students are arriving to school beginning at 7:00 am. There is no supervision earlier than 7:30 am. Please do not drop off, or allow students who walk to arrive any earlier than 7:30 am. Students are reminded to remain in front of their classroom until their teacher arrives at 7:45, and not hang out with students from other rooms, or stable groups. Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, The in-person students will be rotating to a new PE or Music teacher tomorrow. The AVID Elective class applications are now available. If students are interested in being in the AVID Elective class next year, they will fill out a Google Form, print out a copy of their responses and bring it home for a parent signature. These will also be made available to fifth grade students by their teachers this week. In sports, Monday Softball plays Cloverdale at home. Tuesday the individual students in Track will join a meet at Ukiah High at 4:00pm. Wednesday Softball plays Potter Valley at home. There are three weeks left in this school year. Now is the time to make sure that students have looked at their missing assignments and completed as many as they can to successfully finish this trimester. All eighth grade parents should have received information about the BGMS Drive Through Promotion Procession. If your student can not participate in the procession because they have failed two trimesters of Language Arts and Math you will be receiving a call this week. Attendance at Summer School is required for these students to move to the high school next year. Transportation is available to all students who will be attending summer school at BGMS, in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Mendocino County Public Health will be hosting a first dose Pfizer clinic in collaboration with Willits High School on Tuesday 5/25 between 9am and 3pm. This clinic will be opened to anyone over the age of 12. Location: WHS GYM We will have consent forms in the Baechtel Grove Office or if you would like us to mail one please call us at 459-2417.

Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, We want to thank all of our parents who made sure that students were at school and ready to take the state assessments last week. There are very few students who will have to make up tests due to absences. This week is classified appreciation week, that includes secretaries, librarians, instructional aides, custodians, bus drivers and cooks. This is the week to honor those who have been exceptional in their service. Thursday is school picture day. Students in person will be taken to the gym by their teacher according to a schedule. Distance learning students come on campus to have their picture taken; 12:30 for sixth graders, 1:15 for seventh graders, and 1:00 for eighth graders. Soccer has two games this week; Monday they play Cloverdale at Cloverdale, and Wednesday they play Pomolita at Pomolita, both games begin at 4:00 pm. There are four weeks left to the end of this school year. Make sure that students check their grades on Aeries and know what they have to do to receive credit for their ELA and Math class. All students are expected to keep their Chromebook for use during the rest of their educational years at WUSD. We will have a check in the last week of school to make sure everyone’s Chromebook is still in good condition. BGMS Parents and Guardians, We need your support in reminding your student to remain properly masked at all times while on school campus or at a school event. Proper masking includes covering the nose. Our policy, state and county regulations state that students who are unwilling to mask properly be sent home for Distance Learning. We do not want that, instead we want students to mask and follow all safety protocols at school. Please support us by sending your student to school each day with a mask and remind them that masking is important to stop the spread of COVID. Thank you. Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, We will spend the next eight school days completing all of our state testing. Not every student tests every day. The testing schedule is posted to our website. We know this year has been a challenging, we are only taking these to see what students know. All in person students will test on Monday and Tuesday. We are asking that they get a good night’s sleep, charge their school issued Chromebooks, bring their headphones, and try their best. All of our students on distance learning must come to school to test, following the schedule that is posted on our website. They should be dropped off and picked up behind the cafeteria, and are testing in the cafeteria. Information about eighth grade promotion will be mailed out this week. School pictures day will be May 20th. Soccer plays their last game with Mendocino at home on Tuesday beginning at 4:00 pm. Softball plays Potter Valley on Monday, at home, Fort Bragg on Tuesday, at Fort Bragg, and Pomolita on Wednesday at home. All games begin at 4:00 pm. Attention Caregivers of our 8th grade students, We would like to inform you about our plan for 8th grade promotion event. Our 8th grade students who meet the requirements to promote to the high school will be celebrated by a Promotion Procession. We are doing a Drive through Promotion again this year due to the many restrictive protocols that we would have to follow in order to have an In Person event of this size. Celebrating with a Drive Through will allow families to have as many members present as they can fit into a vehicle. In this way we can include more people. We will be holding the Promotion Procession on June 10th at 6:00pm at Baechtel Grove Middle School. Be on the look out for more information. Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians and Caregivers, Each year we have our 7th grade students take the Healthy Kids Survey. This survey is used to understand the student perception of campus climate and culture. We use the information when we create the School Safety Plan and any other plans or professional development around site climate and culture. The seventh graders will be taking this survey on Friday. If they have not already given, to you, the information they were given today to share, please ask them to show you the two pages now. One is a parent information letter and the other is a parent opt out form. There is a parent opt out form, even though the survey is completely anonymous and there is nothing identifying students individually in the survey. We encourage all of our 7th graders to take the survey so that we have their perspective in planning programs.
