August 10, 2021

Dear Brookside Families,

We hope you are having a wonderful summer and we are checking in with a few reminders. This information, along with a district calendar and bus routes/transportation form will also be mailed to each home. Brookside is a peanut and peanut butter free school. Absolutely NO peanuts or peanut butter (students or staff) is allowed on campus.

We have some new staff members who I am eager to introduce! Our new preschool teacher is Ms. Elayna Warren, and our new Brookside teachers are Mrs. Jennifer Andrews and Ms. Stephanie Short. In the office, Amanda Baker is joining our team. We have two new para-educators to support our students and teachers, Ms. Taire Erostico and Ms. Jessica Hagan, and a new campus supervisor, Ms. Georgia Milsap.

Our first day of school is Tuesday, August 24, 2021. The schedule is varied the first few weeks due to family conferences, but becomes normal the third week of school. We are all wearing masks indoors, and we highly recommend wearing masks outside.

The parking lot opens for drop off and pick up 15 minutes before school start and end times. If you wait in the car line outside the parking lot, please do not block driveways of homes. Once everyone knows the routines, the line usually moves quickly, please be kind and have patience.

We will let you know where in the parking lot to drop off and pick up your child, depending on your child’s room number. There will be signs and we will also post it on the district webpage and on the PTO Facebook page, ‘Brookside PTO.’ Adults walking students to and from school, please drop off and pick up by the telephone pole in front of the school. There will be a staff member to meet students who are walked to school. For those here last year, these will be the same as last year’s drop-off and pick-up practices, just no temperature-taking.

Students in TK-Grade 2 can ride the bus to school (depending on bus routes) beginning on Day one of school. Students in Grades 1-2 can ride the bus home beginning on the first day of school, but students in Grade K will not take the bus home until after Labor Day, on September 7th. Students in Grade TK will be met by family/care-giver at school at 11:40 every day- no TK bus home. To board the bus, send the completed transportation note (mailed in this letter) to the bus driver with your child on Day One.

A late breakfast and lunch will be offered to each child free of charge. Late breakfast/snack will be offered early this year, beginning at 8:55 for some. Please contact the office at 459-5385 and let us know if your child needs breakfast upon arriving to school on a regular basis rather than at regular snack time. Families are welcome to send their own meals for students, if desired. Please do not send glass containers or any items containing peanuts. Brookside is a peanut and peanut butter free school. We have a student with a severe airborne allergy to peanuts. Absolutely NO peanuts or peanut butter (students or staff) will be allowed on campus. Thank you for helping to ensure all children stay safe at school.

Please do send your child to school with a backpack, two masks and a water bottle. If you need masks, a backpack or water bottle, we can help- please just let us know. Please leave all toys, gadgets, trinkets, prized items, etc… at home. They will probably be lost or broken at school. Items will be taken by a staff member and sent home or a family member may be asked to pick up.

Please ensure that your child’s Parent Portal is kept up to date with your emergency contact information, and names and numbers of people who can pick up your child in an emergency. Go to https://abi.willitsunified.net/parent/LoginParent.aspx to access the portal. If you need help logging-on, please contact the office staff at 459-5385. On the Portal, you can signify that you want current and emergency information delivered to you by automated calls home. Websites: District: https://www.willitsunified.com/ and School: https://www.willitsunified.com/o/brookside. Facebook: The Facebook page for our parent organization, PTO is ‘BrooksidePTO.’

In the week before school, your child’s teacher will be posted to the Parent Portal. TK and Kindergarten teachers are planning Meet and Greet Opportunities in the days before school. Most 1st and 2nd Grade teachers are planning them, as well. To be safe, there will be several smaller functions and they may be outside. Your child’s teacher will contact you with the location of the meeting and date/time. Please remember to wear a mask.

We look forward to making this an exciting year of learning and socialization, and look forward to welcoming your child back to school! Please contact me with any questions at 459-5385 or at KathleenMCrossman@gmail.com.

Sincerely,

Kathleen Crossman
