Welcome Back!

We hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer. We are delighted that you are part of our amazing learning community. We welcome and value your positive energy and dedication to excellence in education, and look forward to working with you and your children.

Our skilled and devoted staff is already planning and preparing for success. Our dedicated office team is registering new students, ordering needed materials and updating student files. Our hard working custodians have spent the entire summer thoroughly cleaning the facility and painting. Our accomplished teachers and para-educators are participating in a variety of professional development. And, our much-appreciated PTO is gearing up to support families, provide volunteer opportunities, and offer exciting learning events and programs.

New Staff
Each year brings positive change, as well as continued growth in our student population. We are planning to have 7 TK and Kindergarten classes, 5 Grade 1 classes and 7 Grade 2 classes as well as our supportive Resource, Special Day, Speech, English Language Learner and Counselor’s classes. We are delighted to welcome new teachers, Ms. Shannon Ibbotson to Grade 1; Ms. Malinda Morales, Mrs. Shelbi Dodd and Mrs. Maraya Simonis (filling in for Mrs. Beebe) to Grade 2; Mr. Morgan Shook, Resource; and Mrs. Devin Jones, Special Day Class. Help us welcome our new daytime custodian, Edwina Longcrier. Additionally, we are searching for a substitute para-educator, so if you have a heart for working with children please call Laura Sleeper at 707.459.5314 to apply.

Facilities Update
Next time you are on campus, take a look at our shiny new cafeteria tables that can easily be folded up and down for indoor PE and assemblies. We also have fresh new paint with splashes of color in Rooms 1-9 and down the main hall; striping will be refreshed in the main hall, too. Much roof work to classrooms on the east side of campus was completed and an old shed was torn down and removed from the east lot. We are so appreciative of the work!

Student Placement
A great deal of time, effort and thought has gone into the process of student placement for the 2019-2020 school year. Careful consideration was given to input from staff and families. Classrooms have been balanced academically and socially. Our classes are structured to provide equitable class sizes at each grade level.  Moving students is difficult without causing imbalances and inequities. Thank you so much for being positive with your child and helping him or her understand that it is impossible to place all students with a preferred best friend or teacher. ALL of our staff works hard to make school a positive experience for ALL students. Thank you for understanding that it can take a few weeks for a child to acclimate to a new grade, peer group and teacher.

Thank you to all who are helping prepare for the new school year. We eagerly look forward to greeting students and families. It remains an honor and privilege to serve as your child’s educators. Together, we will make this year one of growth and achievement for all children.

Warmest regards,

Kathy Crossman, Principal, and the Brookside Elementary Faculty and Staff
