August 1, 2019
Welcome to the 2019/20 school year, students first day of school is August 19, 2019. I hope everyone had a refreshing summer break, full of fun memories and are excited to start school!
I want to bring everyone’s attention to the revised district calendar. These changes have been made to increase instructional time for our students as well as have ALL schools in the district following the same calendar. No longer will some schools get out early while others do not. We are pleased to advise that parent conference week in October, will also be held at the high schools and no longer just at our elementary school sites.
We have decreased the number of minimum days from 38 to 25. This will provide more instructional time for our students, with a focus on improving our state standardized test scores. In most cases the early dismissal days remain on Tuesday, however, in November, February and June those days are on Thursday and Friday to accommodate finals schedules for our secondary schools. As I mentioned this is to put the entire district on the same calendar.
I know that change can sometimes be difficult, some parents want early release and others don’t, I simply ask that you give it a try. I want what is best for our students and firmly believe that increased instruction time will make greater students and a district wide calendar will make life easier for our families.
I appreciate your support and wish you and your student(s) a wonderful 2019/20.
